"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to." – Bilbo Baggins
Kathleen and I had no idea what God had in store for us years ago when we became Christians. I became a believer at 17 through Young Life and Kathleen came to Christ at 18 through InterVarsity at Rice University. For both of us, our coming to faith was passing from death to life. Not only did we feel the immense freedom of knowing that we were declared righteous before God because of the work of Christ on the cross, we also felt incredible freedom in day to day life due to the new hope we had in God and the Holy Spirit living inside us.
We both soon felt a call to vocational ministry that centered around overseas missions. I have experience serving in Asia and with international students in Houston, and Kathleen has spent time serving in India and with a number of other cross-cultural and inner-city ministries. We met at church in 2007 and were married in 2008. Knowing that we wanted to pursue missions, we decided to go to seminary first to receive the training we would need for a lifetime of ministry.
We attended Covenant Theological Seminary from 2008-2012 in Saint Louis, MO. I received the Master of Divinity degree and Kathleen received the Master of Arts in Counseling. At Covenant we were blessed by incredible teachers who taught and demonstrated how the Gospel impacts not just our heads, but our hearts and hands as well.
We have been blessed beyond belief by God's entrusting to us our four children: our creative and effervescent Ellie, our imaginative and contemplative Calvin, our jolly and confident Jack, and our sweet, ever-happy Theo. They love to make up games together and snuggle while reading. Kathleen and I believe that no matter where we go or what we do, our primary calling before the Lord is to raise our children to know and fear Him, that they might walk in His ways all the days of their lives (Ps. 128:1).
We have been serving at Christ's College in Taipei, Taiwan since 2014. I serve as the chaplain, overseeing campus ministry and Bible curriculum, and the whole family is involved in relational ministry and hospitality. Living on the campus gives Kathleen and even the children the chance to be intimately involved in ministry and loving our students. We also love being a part of and serving in our church and small group, and Kathleen's women's Bible study. Learn more about the work we do on the "Our Mission" tab above.
Kathleen and I stand in awe of the Lord and at His loving and providential leading of our lives; He truly is the Good Shepherd. Following Him is the greatest adventure and we love this life in Taiwan. Any way you can partner with us, whether through prayer and/or financial giving, or even just a word of encouragement, is a blessing from the Lord.
